Creating content and showing up on social media takes a great deal of time and resources, whether you’re doing so in-house or contracting it out to a business such as ours. There’s nothing worse than spending time, effort and money without reaping some of those benefits.
Chances are that you've tried your hand at managing your own social media, but you're not getting the results you want, you're posting content consistently, you're on every single social media platform and just not doing what you expect it to do, or you probably need help with your social media.
We're often approached by business owners who can’t figure out why their social media efforts aren’t resulting in more, whether it’s more sales, more brand awareness or simply a continually growing and engaged following.
In most cases, chances are that you haven’t conducted a social media audit.
In order to know what to do next, it's important to take a closer look at what you're doing and what about it isn't working. Often, this is misunderstood as many people think that posting, posting consistently or running ads should provide the results you want.
No, not so much. This is where a 'social media audit' comes to play, and why we offer a FREE social media audit for all our clients who work with us.
What is a social media audit?
To put it simply, a social media audit is an evaluation of your social media channels in relation to your business’s core values and objectives. It’s a process that enables you as a business owner to understand how your business is performing across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn or Pinterest and if your strategies are in line with your objectives.
Here's the basic 'how to' to help you get on the right track.
What's your business about and who do you serve?
Summarize your business in one paragraph. Your mission, vision, your product/service and who it's aimed at. This sets the base to under your content and social media presence in relation to your business objectives.
Analyze your social media channels:
Are all your social media channels optimized for the platform and for new customers or clients to understand who you are, what you do and how you can help them? Are your social media handles/usernames uniform across all platforms? Are they related to your business? Is your website listed across all channels? Are you on the ‘right’ platforms? These are some checkpoint questions to help set the basics of your social media presence.
Who is your audience and how are they reacting to your content?
A quick look at your insights on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram dashboards will tell you how your posts are performing, how many people are looking at your posts, where are they from, when are they online and who are they and what are they enjoying. Native analytics may not answer all of these questions, but they will give you an idea.
These are some ways to get you started on conducting your own social media audit.
